ANGELS'N SAINTS
Beheading, stoning, crucifixion, burning at the stake: In the annals of Roman Catholic saints, those methods of martyrdom made a big impact in the history of Catholic religion.
There are hundreds of Roman Catholic saints, put to death for their faith. This project represents eight of them.
Catholic history is rife with paradox. It idolizes martyrdom and yet the people in charge have punished oppositional voices that didn’t have a shared belief.
Nowadays, “persecution” doesn’t have the same meaning but it still happens.
This project is inspired by Renaissance and Baroque art - when the church was backing the most art yet had just come out of a period of darkness and persecution.
The subjects improvised and used their imagination on the concept of “ Last 8 hours of your life trapped in prison / cell “.
